This April, in honor of National Poetry Month, the Brunswick High School Library and the Brunswick High School Art Department, along with Spindleworks, People Plus, and participating Brunswick businesses, have created a Poetry Stroll through downtown Brunswick. Enjoy classic poems displayed along Maine Street featuring poetry-inspired BHS student artwork, along with original poetry and artwork created by Spindleworks and People Plus.

People Plus Music in April AuctionMark your calendars! The 21st annual Music in April silent auction and live auction Gala – two premier happenings in the Brunswick community are coming this April! This year’s fundraiser will include the popular month-long online “silent auction,” which runs April 1 through the 28th, and the “live auction” Gala event on April 28th, from 5-8 pm at the St. John’s Community Center. People Plus Music in April Online Auction Closes April 28!The 21st annual People Plus Music in April online auction is now OPEN, launched on April 1, and features over 300 items! It will run the whole month of April, closing on April 28 at 10:00 pm.
Music in April is THE signature fundraiser for People Plus. It enables us to serve over 1300 People Plus members who represent an ever-increasing population of retirees and elders on the Mid Coast. This non-profit could NOT do it without the income from Music in April – which has become a signature event in our community. The Center has raised over $650,000 from the event over the last 20 years. These last few years have demonstrated exactly how vital People Plus is to the lives of the older adult populations. In addition to hundreds of classes, clubs and meals held safely at the Center, we made over four thousand deliveries of groceries, food pantry boxes, meals and prescriptions – and provided over 30,000 miles of transportation – just last year, keeping seniors safe! People Plus serves the greater Brunswick community by offering a variety of activities to support engaged, healthy and independent lives for older adults, as well as hosting the Teen Center where young people can meet safely to explore creative outlets, eat a healthy meal, and develop into well-rounded adults. People Plus also provides outreach and transportation services, and offers many volunteer opportunities. The online auction will feature a variety of items including local gift certificates, jewelry, private dinners, variety baskets, clothing, paintings, vintage treasures, hand-made items, adventures and much more – there is something for everyone – in every price range! Fabric and Florals - an art show by Barbara BeanWorks by Points of View artist Barbara Bean will be on display from April 1-30 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick. Barbara’s solo show demonstrates how she is mixing media to express new directions with old materials, telling a story of a journey that is still in progress. Gelato Fiasco Teen Center Scoop-a-thonThe 15th annual Teen Center Scoop-a-thon at Gelato Fiasco is on Wednesday, April 26! Area businesses and residents are invited to support community youth at the Flagship Gelato Fiasco store in Brunswick from 11am-11pm! Gelato Fiasco will donate $2 from every pint, dish or coffee sold to the Brunswick Area Teen Center. Purchases will count from all customers and no special code is needed. This event is also sponsored by many local businesses. Also this year, Big Top Deli will donate 15% of their sales from April 26 to the Teen Center! Stop by Big Top for
lunch and Gelato for dessert! Throughout the day there will be entertainment, a 50/50 raffle, celebrity scoopers and Bowdoin College will be providing nighttime entertainment and scoopers. Celebrity Scoopers will include Hollywood to Maine transplants, husband and wife Xander Berkley and Sarah Clarke of film and tv fame from 5:30 – 7 pm! This is the 18th year of the Teen Center Program and 15th Annual Gelato Fiasco Scoop-a-Thon. These annual events have seen over 1,000 people participating yearly and have raised over $100,000 for the Teen Center Program! “The community has been coming together for this event for over a decade!” said Joshua Davis, co-founder of Gelato Fiasco. “It’s great to see so many people supporting our teens, year after year.” The success of the annual Teen Center Scoop-a-Thon fundraiser inspired Gelato Fiasco to create its Scooping for Community Program, which provides an opportunity for non-profit organizations to mobilize supporters and raise funds for their organizations in the greater Brunswick and Portland areas. The program provides support to more than two dozen school and community organizations each year.
