First Parish Church of Brunswick Maine is inviting the general public
hear Dr. Andrew Rudalevige, Chair of the Bowdoin College Government and Legal Studies Department on Sunday, April 30, 2023. He will be discussing the topic entitled Chief Executive: Presidential Policy-making in an Age of Polarization. This event will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the church’s sanctuary located at 217 Maine Street in Brunswick.
“We are very fortunate to have a person of Andy’s caliber and experience level speak on this very timely topic,” Rev, John Allen, Senior Pastor of First Parish,” and we are delighted to be able to share this opportunity with the mid-coast communities.”
Since 2012, Dr. Rudalevige has served as the Thomas Brackett Reed Professor of
Government and Legal Studies at Bowdoin. His most recent book, By Executive Order:
Bureaucratic Management and the Limits of Presidential Power (Princeton University Press),
tracks the role of the wider executive branch in the formulation of directives normally thought
of as “unilateral.” By Executive Order won the Richard E. Neustadt Prize from the American
Political Science Association honoring the best book on the presidency as well as the Louis
Brownlow Prize as best book in public administration from the National Academy of Public
Administration.
He is the author of four other books and scores of journal articles and essays. He has also
been a featured speaker at various conferences, and has collaborated with organizations
such as Maine Public Broadcasting on a fifteen part video series entitles “Founding
Principles.” He holds a BA degree from the University of Chicago, and MA and PhD degrees
from Harvard University.
This annual event honors the Adams Society membership made up of friends who have made
gifts to First Parish Church through their estate plans.
