People Plus Senior Health Expo - Registration OPEN 06/01/24 at All Day

People Plus Senior Health Expo - Registration OPEN

Registration is now open for the 13th annual People Plus Senior Health Expo to be held on Thursday, October 10, 2024 at the Brunswick Recreation Center in Brunswick from 9 am – 1 pm. Both sponsorship and exhibitor opportunities are available.

Thank you to our current lead Partners for this year: Bill Dodge Auto Group, Bowdoin College, Coastal Landing Retirement Community, Gateway Retirement Solutions, Live + Work in Maine, Mid Coast-Parkview Health, Maine Health, Islebrook Village at Wiscasset, Priority Real Estate Group, Riley Insurance Agency, Rusty Lantern Market, Aetna Medicare, Highland Green, and Spectrum Generations, plus Sponsors Avita of Brunswick & Sunnybrook, Brackett Funeral Home, Maine Community Bank, and Bath-Brunswick Respite Care, Bath Savings, Maine Pines Racquet & Fitness, Norway Savings Bank, and Reform Physical Therapy

Maine has the highest percentage of older adults in the country; and the Mid Coast is where this population is growing the fastest. The People Plus Senior Health brings together a variety of resources for this increasingly important segment of our community. The Expo provides an excellent opportunity to learn about products and services in the categories of medical services, fitness and health, technology, legal, community services, housing/respite care, and finance. In addition to providing a link between consumers and providers, this gathering also encourages networking within the community, thereby strengthening the value of products and service.

Registration deadline is September 6, 2024 (Sponsor deadline to “be on the bag” is August 23)! Visit www.peopleplusmaine.org for more information including registration form and sponsorship opportunities or call 729-0757.

BTLT ‘Taking Root’ Plant Sale

Get your gardening started with us at the Taking Root Plant Sale!

Tom Settlemire Community Garden. Cash, checks and credit cards are accepted.

Each year, the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust’s Tom Settlemire Community Garden (TSCG) hosts a plant sale thanks to the effort of dozens of volunteers. The proceeds benefit the TSCG’s Common Good Garden, which enriches hundreds of lives each year, providing local food, gardening education, produce for the Mid Coast Hunger Prevention Program, a therapeutic environment for those with physical disabilities, volunteer opportunities for people of all ages, and above all a tremendous community of friends that will welcome you!

There are an array of perennials, biennials, herbs, vegetable seedlings, annual seedlings, heirloom variety plants, shrubs, small trees and vines available. There will be Master Gardeners, who will be on hand to help you choose the best options for your garden.

It’s not just about the plants you’ll find – it’s a wonderful day of celebration and meeting your community of local gardeners.

If you’re interested in volunteering for the sale, please email plantsale@btlt.org.

An Evening with John Gorka 06/01/24 at 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm

An Evening with John Gorka

UUCB Concerts for a Cause presents John Gorka
June 1, 2024 at 7:30 pm

The UUCB Concerts for a Cause series will host world-renowned singer-songwriter, John Gorka, at the Brunswick UU Church on June 1, 2024 at 7:30 to raise money for Midcoast New Mainers and Oasis Free Clinics.

John Gorka is an honored icon of folk tradition, known for his stunningly soulful baritone voice and his uncanny ability to work every nuance of language. He captures a wide array of topics and experiences and weaves them into memorable melodies. His versatility on guitar and piano keeps his sets musically interesting and he’s never short of the sly comment or clever joke that invariably ignites his audience.

Hailed by Rolling Stone as “the leading singer/songwriter of the New Folk movement,” John Gorka is perhaps the quintessential singer-songwriter of the 90’s folk scene.  The old songs ring as true today as they ever did, and the new ones are just as good.

With 14 critically acclaimed albums and countless national and international tours, he has collaborated with the likes of Nanci Griffith, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Ani DiFranco, Lucy Kaplansky, Patty Larkin and many more. The Boston Globe extols, “Gorka is widely heralded for the sophisticated intelligence and provocative originality of his songs.”

Many well-known artists have recorded and/or performed John Gorka songs, including Mary Chapin Carpenter, Nanci Griffith, Mary Black and Maura O’Connell. John has graced the stage of Austin City Limits, Mountain Stage, etown and has appeared on CNN. His song “Where No Monuments Stand” was featured in the documentary Every War Has Two Losers.

Examples of Gorka’s Music:
Love is Our Cross to Bear
Gypsy Life

Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Students/Children $10.  Available at the church office, Gulf of Maine Books, or online at https://ticketstripe.com/johngorka
