Book Event with Local Author Darrell Hartman 03/28/24 at 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Book Event with Local Author Darrell Hartman

Join the Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum for a Book Talk Event with Local Author Darrell Hartman on Thursday, March 28!

Darrell Hartman was born and raised in Maine. Published in 2023, Battle of Ink and Ice is Mr. Hartman’s first book.

Battle of Ink and Ice tells the true story of American explorers Frederick Cook and Robert Peary, both of whom claimed in 1909 to have discovered the North Pole. It’s also a tale of warring newspapers, because each man was backed by a rival New York City daily, the New York Herald and the New York Times. It’s a sixty-year saga of frostbite and fake news that has something to tell us about the media-saturated world we inhabit today.

The Theater Project Presents: Lysistrata by Aristophanes 03/28/24 at 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm

The Theater Project Presents: Lysistrata by Aristophanes

The Theater Project presents Lysistrata by Aristophanes, translated and adapted by Edward Einhorn, Directed by Lisa Muller, March 22 – March 31.

In this modern adaptation of the classic Greek play, Lysistrata has a plan to end the Peloponnesian War: all women are to withhold conjugal rights from the men of Athens until they end the war with Sparta. Reluctantly the women agree, and what ensues is a hilarious foray into the relationships between men and women, still relevant today. Funny, before its time, and still poignant, this is a don’t miss show for lovers of classic literature and those that have never heard of it.

The Cast includes: Shannan Campbell (Lysistrata), Katherine Davis (Calonice), Mackenzie Peacock (Myrrhina), Beth Chasse-King (Lampito/Cinesias), Molly Bryant Roberts (Leader Woman), Catherine Buxton (Leader Man), Miranda Chadbourne (Magistrate/Corinthian Woman/Servant), Grace Kneebone (Herald), Ella Yazwinski (Chorus Female), and Michelle Probert (Chorus Male).

The Creative Team includes: Lisa Muller (Director), Julie Middleton (Stage Manager), Amanda DeHahn (Production Manager), Charlotte Brooks (Costume Designer), Jim Alexander (Lighting Designer), Ari Kohorn (Props Designer), Keith Anctil (Scenic Designer/ Building), Lisa Muller (Sound Designer).

Lysistrata by Aristophanes, translated and adapted by Edward Einhorn, directed by Lisa Muller, runs March 22 – March 31. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 PM, Sundays at 2:00 PM.
