Save Chamberlain’s Saddle (and the Gettysburg Boots!): A Conservation Gala for the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum
For more than forty years, the saddle Joshua Chamberlain used with his beloved horses during the Civil War has been on display along with the boots he wore while commanding the 20th Maine on Little Round Top at Gettysburg.
While they are safe and secure, these priceless artifacts need professional conservation—cleaning, stabilization, improved cases—to keep them from deteriorating and remain visible to the public for decades to come.
Thanks to a generous lead gift of $5,000, we are well on our way to meeting the estimated $18,000 required for the conservation work and custom stands and cases. But we need your help!
Please join us for a special event at the magnificent Skyline Farm—a museum and property dedicated to the era of horse-drawn transportation.
The evening will feature:
- Hosts: “Joshua and Fanny”
- Guided Tours of spectacular carriage exhibits
- Horse-drawn carriage rides by Pineglenn Farm
- Silent auction of Chamberlain artwork and sculpture
- Live music
- Catering by The Portland Board
- Cash bar by Churchill Events
Tickets for the Gala are $100 per person, or $125 including a carriage ride, which helps support the conservation work.
Two special ticket packages are available. The $250 Gettysburg Patron Package
includes two tickets to the event, with carriage ride, two drink tickets, and a copy of the new Chamberlain biography On Great Fields: The Life and Unlikely Heroism of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain signed by author Ron White.
The $500 Appomattox Patron Package includes four tickets to the event, with carriage ride, four drink tickets, a copy of the signed biography, , and a final bid on any one item at the silent auction.
