Music in April Online AuctionThe 22nd annual People Plus Music in April online auction fundraiser, featuring over 300 items, launches on April 1, and will close on April 30 at 10:00 pm. The auction will feature items including local gift certificates, jewelry, private dinners, variety baskets, clothing, classes, paintings, vintage treasures, hand-made items and much more – there is something for everyone – in every price range! Visit www.peopleplusmaine.org, and click on the link for the auction to view the catalog of amazing items. New items will be added every Thursday afternoon so check back often and place your bids (you’ll be notified if someone outbids you so you can bid again!). Music in April is THE signature fundraiser for People Plus. It enables us to serve over 1500 People Plus members who represent an ever-increasing population of retirees and elders on the Mid Coast. This non-profit could NOT do it without the income from Music in April – which has become a fantastic signature event in our community. The Center has raised over $725,000 from the event over the last 21 years. These last few years have demonstrated exactly how vital People Plus is to the lives of the older adult populations. In addition to hundreds of classes, clubs and meals held safely at the Center, we made over four thousand deliveries of groceries, food pantry boxes, meals and prescriptions – and provided over 33,000 miles of transportation – just last year, keeping seniors safe! People Plus serves the greater Brunswick community by offering a variety of activities to support engaged, healthy and independent lives for older adults, as well as hosting the Teen Center where young people can meet safely to explore creative outlets, eat a healthy meal, and develop into well-rounded adults. People Plus also provides outreach and transportation services, and offers many volunteer opportunities. People Plus wishes to thank Lead Sponsors Coastal Landing Retirement Community, Mid Coast-Parkview Health Maine Health, Bill Dodge Auto Group, Bowdoin College, Live + Work in Maine, Priority Real Estate Group, Bath Savings Institution, Riley Insurance Agency, and Rusty Lantern Market. Volunteer Open HouseIf you’re a current volunteer at Pejepscot History Center, interested in starting some volunteering, or just curious what our volunteers do, you’re invited to this year’s Volunteer Kick-off! We’ll be gathering at our headquarters at 159 Park Row at 10am to talk about what we do at PHC and how people can get involved. We’ll also have a presentation from John Cross, College Secretary at Bowdoin, to give an overview of the history of Brunswick and Bowdoin and put our museums and collections in context. All new volunteers will get a welcome packet and have a chance to connect with each other and with experienced volunteers, who can share their own experiences with volunteering at PHC. We’ll then break for a light lunch catered by Wild Oats before splitting off into two groups: one to the Skolfield Whittier House to hear about the forensic career of Frank Whittier, and one group to the Joshua Chamberlain House to hear about the lives of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow and his first wife Mary, who lived in the house. This is free to join, just make sure to RSVP to outreach@pejepscot.org! |
