Downtown Brunswick Poetry Stroll

Brunswick’s young poets take center stage in the 3rd annual Downtown Brunswick Poetry Stroll! The theme of this year’s event is Brunswick: the Poetry Place, with students in all four Brunswick schools writing poems inspired by landmarks and special places in our hometown.

Look for the poetry posters with accompanying Brunswick photographs on display in more than 35 downtown storefront windows to celebrate National Poetry Month in April!

Poets include students from Kate Furbish Elementary School, Harriet Beecher Stowe Elementary School, Brunswick Junior High School, Brunswick High School, Spindleworks, and People Plus.

The auction will feature items including local gift certificates, jewelry, private dinners, variety baskets, clothing, classes, paintings, vintage treasures, hand-made items and much more – there is something for everyone – in every price range! Visit www.peopleplusmaine.org, and click on the link for the auction to view the catalog of amazing items. New items will be added every Thursday afternoon so check back often and place your bids (you’ll be notified if someone outbids you so you can bid again!).

Music in April is THE signature fundraiser for People Plus. It enables us to serve over 1500 People Plus members who represent an ever-increasing population of retirees and elders on the Mid Coast. This non-profit could NOT do it without the income from Music in April – which has become a fantastic signature event in our community. The Center has raised over $725,000 from the event over the last 21 years. These last few years have demonstrated exactly how vital People Plus is to the lives of the older adult populations. In addition to hundreds of classes, clubs and meals held safely at the Center, we made over four thousand deliveries of groceries, food pantry boxes, meals and prescriptions – and provided over 33,000 miles of transportation – just last year, keeping seniors safe!

People Plus serves the greater Brunswick community by offering a variety of activities to support engaged, healthy and independent lives for older adults, as well as hosting the Teen Center where young people can meet safely to explore creative outlets, eat a healthy meal, and develop into well-rounded adults. People Plus also provides outreach and transportation services, and offers many volunteer opportunities.

Panel Discussion: What Does the Working Waterfront Look Like After the Storms? 04/03/24 at 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm

Panel Discussion: What Does the Working Waterfront Look Like After the Storms?

This is another in MCFA’s working waterfront panels that have been held along the Maine coast in several towns. This event is co-hosted by the Kennebec Estuary Land Trust and MCFA and is an informal conversational panel moderated by Maine Coast Fishermen’s Association’s Director of Community Programs, Monique Coombs, with space for questions and discussion from participants. The event will be a discussion about the future of the maritime industry in Maine as well as ways that industry can be responsive to coastal storms and climate change. Panelists will include individuals who will focus on education, commercial fisheries, waterfront business, maritime trades, and construction. The event is free, but registration is required.
