Join Wayne Whitney, member of BTLT’s Stewardship Committee, for a guided walk of Crystal Spring Farm. The walk will cover the history of the property and information on how the land is stewarded.

Crystal Spring Farm reflects many core aspects of the Land Trust’s mission including conserving land while also promoting local agriculture and supporting diverse community needs. Located only 1.5 miles from busy downtown Brunswick, the property is a visible working farm valued by the community for its many resources and the important sense of place that it provides the town. The farm is home to rare habitat, protects groundwater in a significant aquifer and waters flowing into Maquoit Bay. It also played an important historic role in the region as a dairy that collected milk from surrounding farms, and, for a time, made Dee’s Ice Cream.

Wayne has been a BTLT member for 35 years and an active volunteer for 11 years. His volunteer work primarily involves stewardship issues – trail construction, trail maintenance, and monitoring. Wayne is a native Mainer, a retired attorney, and a long-time Brunswick resident. He enjoys the outdoors, especially hiking, biking, kayaking, and X-country skiing

The walk should take 1 hour. We suggest wearing sturdy shoes and bringing water, sunscreen and a hat. This event is free but we encourage registration!

The BTLT Woods Walks Series seeks to introduce the community to the ecological significance of our properties, land conservation and stewardship, property history and/or exploration of the ecosystems and critters present on various properties. These guided walks are led by knowledgeable volunteers and the Land Trust’s incredible Stewardship Team!
