The best way to learn is by doing, so if you aspire to learn how to identify and remove common woody invasive plants, join us for this hands-on workshop.

Many who are knowledgeable about the impact of invasives on local ecosystems believe targeted use of herbicides is often a necessary part of a control program. In this workshop, participants will learn to identify and remove common woody invasive plants from BTLT properties–primarily Asiatic bittersweet, shrub honeysuckles, European barberry, glossy buckthorn, multiflora rose, and burning bush.

We will be hand-pulling smaller plants and doing “cut-stem” treatments with herbicides on larger plants. The cut-stem method involves cutting shrubs near ground level and dabbing the stem with an herbicide. As you will learn, timing of application is a key part of the success of these treatments.

Experience is not required – we will help you learn how to identify the various plants and how to safely use the selected herbicide (glyphosate).

Registration is required and plan to bring water, sunscreen, bug repellent, and (if you have them) gloves and eye protection. We’ll have extras on hand.
