About this Event
The Maine Monitor is a free digital publication, whose award-winning journalists research and write long-form and investigative stories that explore pressing issues, such as availability and affordability of health care, climate change, the legal aid crisis, legislative actions, and sustaining public education.
Join reporters Rose Lundy and Kristian Moravec for a discussion moderated by Executive Director Micaela Schweitzer-Bluhm about how the nonpartisan, in-depth reporting by The Maine Monitor is helping readers make sense of issues and developments – state and federal – that impact their lives. For the last 15 years, the nonprofit Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting has diligently reported stories of public interest for people across Maine and made those available for everyone to read for free.
Since 2020, it has published as The Maine Monitor. Micaela, Rose, and Kristian will also explore how their organization is not only surviving, but thriving and growing, bucking the downward trend in journalism. The Maine Monitor team looks forward to a robust discussion, questions from the audience, and hopes to hear from attendees about how they are engaging with local news and how local news is or is not serving them.
