MAINE POET LAUREATE WESLEY MCNAIR READS POEMS OF A GRATEFUL HEART
Often referred to as “a poet of place,” Maine Poet Laureate Wesley McNair captures the ordinary lives of northern New Englanders with keen insight.
McNair’s reading will take up the theme of praise and celebration. Offered in the season of Thanksgiving, it will put aside life’s conflicts and imperfections, gathering participants around the common table of poetry to share one of poetry’s oldest inspirations: gratitude. How do you sing the praises of cigarettes, or reveal the blessings of a stroke, or celebrate an irksome family dog? McNair finds a way in these poems of a grateful heart.
McNair has been called “one of the great storytellers of contemporary poetry.” In April of this year, he received the PEN New England Award for Poetry for his latest collection, The Lost Child.
Please join us Sunday, November 8 at 2:00 pm, in the Morrell Meeting Room. Free refreshments served and copies of the author’s books will be available for purchase and signing.
