PHC Walking Tour: Harding Cemetery
Sunday, August 6 at 1pm
Before cars, East Brunswick was its own community, many of the residents having business and family connections in Harpswell and Bath. Residents were Black, white, and mixed-race, and the cemetery holds the stories of many of them: Capt. Nehemiah Peterson, who objected to his white children going to school with the Black children; William Freeman, the first Black police officer in Brunswick in the mid-20th century; those born in the Revolutionary War era, housekeepers, a minister, and many more. Barbara Desmarais is one of our best cemetery historians and her tours are always fascinating!
Tickets: $8 PHC Members; $12 General Admission
Participants meet at starting point; driving directions and parking information provided upon registration. Please check-in with tour leader at least 10 minutes prior to tour time.
Tours are limited to 20 unless otherwise noted. PHC maintains a waiting list for each tour in case of cancellations. Most tours are 75-90 minutes, though tours outside of downtown may go slightly longer. Please dress accordingly for the weather and wear sturdy shoes, sunblock, and/or bug spray as needed.
PRE-REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT REQUIRED
