Cape Dorset and Beyond: Inuit Art from the Marcia and Robert Ellis Collection – This exhibit features sculptures and prints from Cape Dorset, home to man of Canada’s best-known Inuit artists. The pieces capture a range of styles embraced by these artists, from strikingly realistic and dynamic figures to whimsical and mystical creatures. Exhibit runs through February 23, 2015.
Faces of Greenland: Ivory Carvings from the Baregard Collection – Opens May 6. In the early twentieth century in the Greenlandic community of Kangaamiut, a group of talented artists began carving delightfully evocative human figures in sperm whale tooth and ivory. Highlights of the collection include bas-relief carved walrus mandibles, teeth and tusks, as well as carvings of men and women going about their everyday activities. Exhibit runs through August 31, 2015
