Frank Goodyear, Co-Director of the Bowdoin College Museum of Art will provide comments and a tour of the exhibition, On 52nd Street: The Jazz Photography of William P. Gottlieb William P. Gottlieb (1917-2006) began photographing jazz musicians in 1938 to illustrate a weekly feature he wrote for The Washington Post. Over the next decade he created almost 2,000 portraits of more than 250 musicians. This exhibition brings together Gottlieb’s photographic portraits of jazz musicians whose rebellious self-expression, charisma, edge, and mystery made them American icons. July 11 through September 14, 2014
