SUMMARY:Slow Flow Yoga
DESCRIPTION:🧘‍♀️ Slow Flow is a weekly\, all-levels yoga class offered on a pay-what-you-can basis—from $0 to $75. This class is all about moving gently and intentionally\, blending mindful movement with spacious pauses for breath and rest. Whether you’re new to yoga or a longtime practitioner\, you’re welcome just as you are. \nAt ECC\, we believe yoga is so much more than a stretchy workout. It’s a lifelong\, spiritual practice rooted in the wisdom of Southeast Asian and African traditions—one that invites us into deeper relationship with ourselves\, each other\, and the world around us. \nWe do our best to honor yoga’s roots by weaving in teachings on self-awareness\, ethics\, and collective care—while keeping our classes slow\, grounding\, and accessible. ✨ \n🌱 All donations for this class go directly to our Class Scholarship Fund\, which helps folks access other ECC classes and workshops. When the fund is thriving\, we extend it to support local mutual aid projects too. Got an idea for where it could go next? We’d love to hear it! \n💕 And just to be crystal clear: nobody will ever be turned away for lack of funds. Come as you are\, and move with us in community.

SUMMARY:An Evening with Soggy Po Boys
DESCRIPTION:New Hampshire-based SOGGY PO BOYS will bring the musical traditions of New Orleans to the Concerts for a Cause stage on Saturday\, October 18th at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick\, 1 Middle Street\, Brunswick to raise money for Oasis Free Clinics and the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project. \nWith a contemporary New Orleans sound\, Soggy Po Boys explore the vast musical traditions of New Orleans and expand their repertoire to look beyond NOLA jazz. This young octet plays traditional New Orleans jazz\, the kind with fluttering clarinet solos and swingin’ shout-along choruses\, and playful bursts of brass. But they’ve also got the soul\, the spirit and the swing of street-parade chants\, classic blues\, Meters funk\, rocking rumbas\, even calypso\, noting New Orleans is the northernmost Caribbean city. Suffice it to say\, the music is hot and driving when it’s fast\, and sultry when it’s slow. You will also hear the heavy influence of the New Orleans sound in their original tunes. The main thing the band aims for is accessibility with their music. Soprano saxophonist and clarinetist Eric Klaxton describes their sound as\, “Whether or not you know the tune ahead of time\, by the time we’re done playing it four minutes later\, the melodies are the kind of thing you can walk away whistling.” \nSoggy Po Boys have quickly become an institution. They are spreading the good news of New Orleans music across the northeast and beyond\, playing at concert halls and street corners; music festivals and burlesque festivals; bars and libraries; wherever the party requires. Part of the beauty of New Orleans music is that it’s celebrated and appreciated wherever it goes\, from the street to the theater. \nThe Soggy Po Boys are: \nShaina Schwartz : Vocals\nJim Dozet : Vocals + Guitar\nEric Klaxton : Clarinet + Saxophones\nNick Mainella : Tenor Saxophone\nJosh Gagnon : Trombone\nMike Effenberger : Piano\nScott Kiefner : Bass\nBrian Waterhouse : Drums \nTickets are $25 in advance\, $30 at the door\, and $10 for students/children. Available at the church office (729-8515)\, Gulf of Maine Books\, or online at http://ticketstripe.com/soggypo

SUMMARY:On Time and Water: How to Talk When Language Collapses
DESCRIPTION:Join internationally recognized storyteller and poet\, Andri Snaer Magnason\, for an exploration of language and communication in this age of Climate Change. \nClimate change is a challenge that is larger than language. We are faced with an imbalance or realignment of all elements of water on our planet. The glaciers\, the sea level\, the seasons\, the permafrost\, the pH of the world oceans\, the currents\, the rain and snow\, the absence of water in droughts. We are in a global paradigm shift\, a collapse of language\, where events are on a scale that can only be compared to mythological metaphors. \nMagnason will explore what it means to be a writer seeking to express the true scale and scope of Climate Change. He will weave a story through family stories\, myth\, and science to navigate and understand the scale of our shared global challenge.
