DESCRIPTION:Maine Singer-Songwriter and Multi-Instrumentalist Don Campbell brings his award-winning voice\, heartfelt original songs\, and down-to-earth personality to the UUCB stage on September 20th at 7:30 to raise money for Oasis Free Clinics and the Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project. \nA national grand-prize winner at Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry and 6-time winner of the title\, “Maine’s Best Singer-Songwriter” from the Maine Sunday Telegram’s Reader’s Poll\, Don Campbell was recently inducted into the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame\, Don’s music resides in the home of “American crossover” akin to the Eagles and John Cougar Mellencamp. He is known for his remarkable vocal range—from the tenor tones of Vince Gill to the deep resonance of Johnny Cash. \nDon has written and released 12 CDs. Additionally\, he has been commissioned to write songs for specific organizations and occasions including “A Friend Right Here\,” as the National Theme Song for Visiting Nurses Association of America. \nFor this performance\, Don is joined by longtime friends and bandmates Andy Happle (violin\, harmonies) a concert violinist and fiddler who has shared the stage with symphonies\, pop stars and country music luminaries; and Tonya Shevenell (bass\, harmonies) who has performed hundreds of shows with Don and is also a Maine children’s book author\, penning regional favorites\, including The Maine Birthday Book. \nThis special concert will feature a mix of Don’s beloved originals alongside fan-favorite covers from artists like Dan Fogelberg\, Eddie Rabbitt\, John Denver\, and more! \nTickets are $25 in advance\, $30 at the door\, and $10 for students/children. DESCRIPTION:VOLUNTEER IN 2025! Midcoast Literacy\, a nonprofit that provides free literacy tutoring to people of all ages\, is holding a 3-day training for new volunteer tutors this fall. The Read Together training is for those who want to work with school-age children. It will be held September 22\, 24\, and 26\, from 9:00am-1:00pm each day. Pre-registration and participation in all three days of the training are required. Volunteer tutors must be at least 18 years old and make an initial commitment to tutor twice a week for 12 months (with occasional breaks for vacations or holidays). DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join us for MCHPP’s Harvest Dinner on Wednesday\, September 24th\, at the beautiful Smith Center at Wolfe’s Neck Farm in Freeport. \nDuring this time of uncertainty\, and amidst the shrinking of critical safety net programs\, being a reliable support system for our neighbors in need is more important than ever. With your help\, we aim to raise $20\,000 through this event to support MCHPP’s mission of ensuring access to plentiful food for all community members. We hope you will join us in making a meaningful impact in our community! \n_______________________________ \nAn optional tasting session at 5pm will kick off the evening\, featuring sips from Austin Street Brewery\, Moderation Brewing and more as well as bites from our friends Marc Provencher of Taverna Khione\, Jason LaVerdiere of Flux\, and Ali Waks-Adams of Balaboosta. \nTo follow\, beginning at 5:30pm is a seasonal three-course meal\, with each dish prepared by a prominent local chef. \nKen Burkett of Noble Kitchen & Bar kicks of the meal with a vegetarian appetizer embracing seasonality by highlighting local ingredients available at the time of the event. Our main course for the evening\, prepared by Chopped champion and restauratuer Christian Hayes\, will be boneless beef short rib (vegetarian substitute available) accompanied by creamer potatoes\, scallions and dukkah with a tamari ginger broth (gluten free). Our meal will end with Senza Scarpe’s beloved carrot cake with candied carrot curls and pecans prepared by Danielle Magno. (gluten free alternative available) \nBefore dessert\, guests will be invited to join in the fund-a-need segment. Each person who donates has a chance to win their table’s centerpiece: a curated basket of local goodies from our friends at Ananndale Flower Co.\, Fairwinds Farm\, Island Candy Co.\, Maine Sol Botanicals\, Martha’s Maine Mix\, and Wicked Joe.

DESCRIPTION:Across the globe\, young people are taking governments to court to fight for their constitutional right to a livable climate. Philip Gregory\, co-lead counsel in landmark youth-led cases such as Juliana v. United States\, Held v. Montana\, and Lighthiser v. Trump\, will share cutting-edge legal strategies behind the climate litigation movement that’s reshaping environmental law and empowering the next generation. \nPhilip Gregory is Of Counsel to Our Children’s Trust\, the organization representing youth plaintiffs in climate change litigation. Since 2010\, Phil has focused his advocacy on youth climate action. Phil serves as co-lead counsel in Juliana v. United States\, Genesis v. U.S. EPA\, and Lighthiser v. Trump. Phil also served as co-lead counsel in Held v. Montana and Navahine F. v. Hawaii. Phil has co-authored amicus briefs at the U.S. Supreme Court on climate issues\, as well as the equal rights of children. Phil has received numerous honors\, including the Montana Trial Lawyers Association Public Service Award (2024) and the Owens Lawyer of the Year Award (2018).
