Author and Knitter Laurie Doran to Speak on Quest to Knit Mittens From Mountain Regions Around the World

Curtis Memorial Library invites the community to an author event featuring knitter and mountain climber Laurie Doran on Monday, January 25, 6:30 pm. Doran will talk about her quest to knit a variety of mittens from mountain regions around the world using ancient techniques and indigenous materials. The mitten patterns from around the world gave her insights into other cultures and her mountaineering experiences led her to a reverence for the mountains and respect for harsh climates. Mountain Mittens

Laurie has had several articles published in local newspapers and her stories are published in the books “Knit Lit” and “Knit Lit (too).”

A selection of Doran’s mittens are on display at the library throughout the month of January, including mittens inspired by Andean Mountains, Mount Everest, Norway, Nepal, and Maine.

This event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 725-5242 or visit
