Commemorating the Announcement of the Abolition of Slavery on June 19, 1865

Friday June 14, Concert and Readings, 7 p.m., UU Church, 1 Middle Street
Soprano Mary Sullivan, pianist Sean Flemming, and the Juneteenth Singers offer traditional spirituals and songs in the spiritual style. Readings from African American authors, including Zora Neale Hurston. Good will offering to benefit the Abyssinian Meeting House Restoration Project.
Saturday June 15, “Food and Family,” 12 to 3, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 27 Pleasant Street
Family-friendly day with traditional soul food, story telling by Linda Ashe-Ford, an educational farming workshop, arts and crafts, musical performance by Rodney Mashia.
Sunday June 16, “Listen and Learn,” 2 to 4, Curtis Memorial Library, 23 Pleasant Street
Reading and discussion of author/artist Ashley Bryon’s book Freedom Over Me. Facilitated by James Ford and Sarah Brown.
