We hope you’ll join us on Saturday, September 12, 10 am to 3 pm for Curtis’ free How-To Festival and Block Party. Talented individuals and local business owners are donating their time to teach people of all ages a variety of fun and interesting skills.
This year we expand these FREE mini-workshops to include information tables, food and fun. Middle Street will be closed to vehicles to accommodate events happening at the library, in the street and in the Unitarian Universalist Church hall. There will be food trucks, demonstrations, giveaways, live music with local musicians, and special appearances and photo opportunities with Baxter, the Maine State Library mascot, and Slugger, the Portland Seadog mascot.
Attendees can learn about English Country dancing, weatherizing windows, baton twirling, rug hooking, preparing family meals on a budget, caring for a pet chinchilla—and much more! There will be plenty of how-to presentations that showcase technology and online resources such as accessing free magazines on mobile devices, how to scan photos, demonstrations on a 3D printer, and an introduction to the Apple Watch.
Our Making it in Maine financial education program will highlight topics from the amusing to the practical. How-to sessions and exhibitions offer learn simple tricks to Make it in Maine. There will also be opportunities to meet with community partners who provide assistance when needed most.
The How-To Festival is part of the Curtis Library’s ongoing mission of lifelong learning. We recognize the power of information and the joy of discovery and strive to provide a variety of quality resources and programs to meet community needs. If you’ve ever found yourself saying, “I wish I could learn how to…,” then this event is for you! For more information go to curtislibrary.com.
