College Guild Presentation at Freeport Library

6:30 pm - 7:45 pm

Freeport Public Library
10 Library Drive
Freeport, Maine 04032
United States

Freeport Public Library hosts a presentation by College Guild.
CG remains the nation’s only provider of free correspondence courses and dictionaries (to more than 6,500 prisoners) across the country. College Guild will spend 30 minutes sharing prisoner students’ poetry, artwork, testimonials, etc. Then at 7pm, Woody Hanstein will speak for 20 minutes. Q&A for 10 minutes.  Learn the history and recent achievements of College Guild of  Brunswick, a  non-profit, including letters of support from Maine’s Congressional delegation as well as the White House.
CG’s special guest is Woody Hanstein, a lawyer for 35 years.  He lives in Farmington, Maine where he also teaches classes at the University of Maine at Farmington and coaches that college’s rugby teams.  He is the author of six published mysteries and a number of short stories, but his writing career would never have gotten off the ground were it not for the College Guild’s Julie Zimmerman who managed a small publishing company.  During that publishing era, Julie was approached by a prisoner whose work she published. That led to her focusing the business on prisoner issues and literature, which then led to the formation of College Guild in 2001.
