SUMMARY:An Evening with Pejepscot Station
DESCRIPTION:The UUCB Concerts for a Cause series presents the local favorite bluegrass band\, Pejepscot Station\, on Saturday\, January 17th at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick\, 1 Middle Street\, Brunswick to raise money for local charities. \nBased in the village of Pejepscot (in Topsham\, ME)\, Pejepscot Station has performed throughout southern Maine since forming in 2011. Their repertoire is a mix of traditional and contemporary bluegrass\, Americana\, and some “bluegrassified” folk and country songs. Wide vocal harmonies and an informal and relaxed stage presence make for an enjoyable and fun show appropriate for all. \nThe idea of a band started in 1972 when Satch and Ren\, then in high school\, began noodling around with the banjo and guitar. Later in 1977 during their college days\, “Lonesome” Jim joined up with Ren\, and the pair performed at a couple venues. Fast forward to July 4th\, 2011 (34 years later!)\, Ren\, Satch and Jim played for another unpaid gig at the July 4th lobster bake in Pejepscot and decided to get the band back together. \nIn the spring of 2013 a new bass player\, Cherie\, joined Pejepscot Station\, adding her considerable talent and abundant joy to the band. Her outstanding bass playing is coupled with her singing of lead and harmony vocals. In 2019\, Russ Donahue joined and added depth to the band with his crisp mandolin and guitar work\, and his harmony and lead vocals.\nAudiences feel right at home and always enjoy the great music and silly banter. The fun the band has is contagious. Pejepscot Station gets your toes tapping\, gets you laughing\, and plants a song or two in your head for the trip home. \nTickets are $25 in advance\, $30 at the door\, and $10 for students/children. SUMMARY:Concerts for a Cause presents Jud Caswell and Lisa Redfern
DESCRIPTION:Jud Caswell and Lisa Redfern\, award-winning singer-songwriters and favorites of the local folk scene\, will share the stage at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick on February 7th at 7:30 as a part of the Concerts for a Cause series to raise money for Oasis Free Clincs and Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project. \nJud Caswell has been performing in his native state of Maine and beyond for more than 25 years. He is a master multi-instrumentalist\, playing guitar\, banjo\, cittern\, whistles and Irish drums. His interpretations of songs from modern acoustic to traditional folk and Irish are done with excellent musicianship\, and his words and warm\, tender voice portray his landscapes like Wyeth\, with a reverence for humble beauty. \nJud’s originals have won many prestigious songwriting contests in the country\, including the legendary Kerrville New Folk competition. His songs have been taught at Berklee\, recorded by Judy Collins\, and named “#4 Song of the Decade” by New York’s WFUV. The single\, “The Great Divide\,” from the album was the #2 song of October\, 2021 on Folk Alliance International’s Charts. His record “Live at the Seagull Shop” was the number 1 album on the Folk Alliance International radio charts in March of 2020. \nWith 12 solo recordings to her credit\, including originals\, folk songs\, jazz standards\, hymns\, lullabies and Christmas songs\, Lisa Redfern has been performing for over 35 years and has opened for some of her favorites: The Roches\, David Mallett\, Livingston Taylor\, and Cindy Kallet. She also played several duets with Pete Seeger. A few years ago Lisa was commissioned to write a ballad for Penobscot Indian elder and WW2 hero\, Charles Norman Shay\, and was honored to sing it for him at a ceremony on DDAY in Normandy\, France. Organized by a group of volunteers from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Brunswick\, the Side Door Coffeehouse operates on the second Friday of every month except August. \nAdmission is $12 for adults and free for children 17 and under. \nThe Friday\, April 10th installment will feature:\nOpen Mic signup at 6:45 pm\nOpen Mic at 7:00\nPaddy Mills—8:30-9:30 pm. \nPaddy Mills is a Maine-based folk singer and songwriter whose music carries the salt air of the North Atlantic and the stories of the people who live by it.Drawing inspiration from storytellers like Gordon Bok\, Stan Rogers\, and David Mallet\, Mills blends maritime imagery with a troubadour’s heart and a craftsman’s ear for detail. On stage\, Paddy brings an easy presence – part sailor\, part storyteller – inviting listeners into his songs with humor and heart.

Her shows are driven by her dynamic stage presence\, heartfelt lyrics and stories\, and masterful writing\, evoking the style of artists such as Eva Cassidy\, KD Lang\, and Sara Bareilles. \nShe has released 10 original albums over her 25 year career and has collaborated on projects with dozens of other writers and performers.
