SUMMARY:Karin Tilberg: Loving the North Woods-25 Years of Conservation in Maine
DESCRIPTION:Midcoast Senior College presents its free speaker series\, Winter Wisdom\, sponsored by The Highlands of Topsham. A look at the challenges that led to conservation successes during a remarkable period of activity from 1990 to 2015. During this time of forest ownership changes\, Maine went from about 5% of some form of conservation\, to 20% being conserved in some manner. The forces that brought forth this change and the stories of conserving Maine’s North Woods will be described. Karin Tilberg was Staff Attorney and Director of Advocacy for Maine Audubon Society\, became Maine Director and then interim Director for Northern Forest\, served as Deputy Commissioner of Maine Department of Conservation and worked as a Senior Policy Advisor to Governor John E. Baldacci. Most recently\, Tilberg was president and CEO of Forest Society of Maine\, retiring in 2024.

The Center has raised over $915\,000 from the event over the last 23 years. These last few years have demonstrated exactly how vital People Plus is to the lives of the older adult populations. In addition to hundreds of classes\, clubs and meals held safely at the Center\, we made over four thousand deliveries of groceries\, food pantry boxes\, meals and prescriptions – and provided over 33\,000 miles of transportation – just last year\, keeping seniors safe! \nPeople Plus serves the greater Brunswick community by offering a variety of activities to support engaged\, healthy and independent lives for older adults\, as well as hosting the Teen Center where young people can meet safely to explore creative outlets\, eat a healthy meal\, and develop into well-rounded adults. People Plus also provides outreach and transportation services and offers many volunteer opportunities. \nPeople Plus wishes to thank Lead Sponsors MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital\, Rusty Lantern Market\, Bill Dodge Auto Group\, Bowdoin College\, Priority Real Estate Group\, Riley Insurance Agency\, Bath Savings Institution\, Brackett Funeral Home\, and Legacy Properties – Sotheby’s International Realty. SUMMARY:Exhibit Opening - Mamaqtuq! It's Delicious! Traditional Foods of the North
DESCRIPTION:The Peary-MacMillan Arctic museum is happy to announce that our next exhibit “Mamaqtuq! It is Delicious!: Traditional Foods of the North” will be opening April 2! \nFood is at the heart of Inuit culture. In the Arctic this means food hunted\, fished\, or gathered from the land\, air\, and sea. Whales\, seals\, caribou\, muskox\, fish\, and birds\, as well as berries and other plants\, have provided untold generations with all the healthy nourishment they needed to thrive. These foods continue to be important to Inuit\, and many consider hunting\, gathering\, sharing\, and eating these traditional foods to be central to Inuit identity. \nThe exhibit will be open to the public April 2\, with a reception at a later date (to be announced!). Explore the exhibit to discover some of the ways Inuit communities across the Arctic are working to ensure that they and their descendants can continue to enjoy these important and delicious foods.
