5:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Hosted by Pejepscot History Center and Presented by Dr. Kate McMahon, Ph.D. Howard University; Museum Specialist, Center for the Study of Global Slavery, National Museum of African American History & Culture, Smithsonian Institution
A Maine native, Kate’s Ph.D. dissertation at Howard University explored the complexities of the shipbuilding economies of northern New England, their connections to the slave trade, and how Africans and African Americans resisted slavery and racism. The Pejepscot region, and Brunswick in particular, has some surprising connections to this unforgivable period in American history.
