Ronald Phillips founded CEI in 1977. Under his leadership, CEI has grown from a three-person office focused on Maine’s fisheries to become one of Maine’s and the nation’s major finance development organizations. With its subsidiaries, CEI is now an organization of 88 staff, 40 board and advisory volunteer board members and capital under management of over $980 million. CEI has mobilized over $2.5 billion for financing and technical assistance in development of small, medium and micro businesses, natural resources industry sectors of fish, farms and forests, community facilities such as family and center-based child care, and affordable housing.
A pioneer in community lending, Ron Phillips has helped Coastal Enterprises create sophisticated strategies for strengthening local industries and creating job opportunities for low income people.
Ron is a graduate of Boston University with a B.A. in comparative literature; a M. of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary in New York; and Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program AMP. He lives in Waldoboro with his wife, a Maine artist
