Topsham freelance writer Ron Chase was fascinated by the true story of Bernard Patterson’s daring 1971 robbery of the Northern National Bank in Mars Hill, Maine. Patterson escaped with $110,000 which at the time was the largest bank robbery in State of Maine history. Chase’s book is The Great Mars Hill Bank Robber, the story of Patterson’s adventure filled controversial life that led him across the United States, then to Europe and North Africa.
