March Meeting of Brunswick’s Merrymeeting Bay Trout UnlimitedDams & Stranded Fish – How We Can Save the West Branch of the Penobscot River Fishery Join us at the Free March Meeting of Brunswick’s Merrymeeting Bay Trout Unlimited The March monthly meeting of Brunswick’s Merrymeeting Bay chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU) will describe how hydro operations on the West Branch of the Penobscot River are diminishing the crown jewel of Maine’s landlocked salmon fishery and the steps we can take to help restore this river to its former stature. Steve Heinz, veteran TU conservationist and recipient of a Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife award, will present “Ripogenus & Penobscot Mills Project Relicensing.” The presentation will cover the current Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license terms and conditions for the Ripogenus Project and Penobscot Mills Project on the West Branch of the Penobscot River, why they aren’t working to protect the fishery, and where things stand with the five-year FERC relicensing process. Steve will show shocking photos taken by TU volunteers during a fish stranding study last fall.
No admission fee. Open to members and non-members. Please join us. Our mission is to conserve, protect, and restore our area’s cold-water resources and the watersheds on which they depend. Trout Unlimited?is the nation’s oldest and largest?cold-water?fisheries conservation organization dedicated to caring for and recovering America’s rivers and streams so our children can experience the joy of wild and native trout and salmon. Across the country, TU brings to bear local, regional, and national grassroots organizing, durable partnerships, science-backed policy muscle, and legal firepower on behalf of trout and salmon fisheries, healthy waters, and vibrant communities. |
