Fit and Fun for Free in January

If you made a New Year’s resolution to “pick up the pace” of your personal fitness or start a new activity, why not come to People Plus and start something new at no cost? Try any one (or more) of our offerings during January for Free! The Center routinely offers more than a dozen fitness classes and clubs each week, varying from Table Tennis (free all the time!) to Tai Chi to Write On Writers. All of our instructor led courses are available to members for a cost of only $5 a session.

“The goal is to get folks engaged,” Frizzle explained, “This offer is for new attendees to try classes/clubs and see if they like it. We’re confident they will. There is no better investment than the one we all make in our own personal health. What a way to start the new year!”

This offer is free and open to the public. Call the Center at 729-0757 if you have questions or want to sign up. See our calendar for a complete list of activities to choose from! (Some exclusions apply).

The Wondrous Winter Skies of Midcoast Maine 01/18/23 at 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

The Wondrous Winter Skies of Midcoast Maine

Midcoast Senior College presents its FREE “Winter Wisdom” series sponsored by The Highlands. Each week presents a new topic and speaker.

Take those binoculars off the shelf, bundle up, go outside, look up, and be awestruck by our marvelous
universe. The crisp, cool nights of winter offer stargazers living in midcoast Maine, a plethora of wondrous sights. In this talk you will be introduced to stars, constellations, planets, asteroids, nebulae, star clusters,
and galaxies that don’t need a telescope to be observed. You will learn how to use the Big Dipper and the Great Winter Hexagon to navigate this magical tour of the heavens. Russ Pinizzotto teaches astronomy at Simmons University in Boston when he isn’t diligently working as Simmons’ provost. He has taught introductory astronomy at Merrimack College, Wentworth Institute of Technology, and Simmons College. He holds a B.S. in Chemistry from Caltech, a Ph.D. in Materials Science from UCLA, and an M.S. in Astronomy from Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia.
