The Burning of Brunswick at 300: Memory and Maine’s Forgotten War

Pejepscot History Center Presents:
The Burning of Brunswick at 300: Memory and Maine’s Forgotten War
with Ian Saxine

Thursday, September 29 at Noon via Zoom

Known as “Dummer’s War,” “Father Rale’s War,” “Lovewell’s War,” “Greylock’s War,” the “Three Years War,” the “Wabanaki-New England War,” or the “4th Anglo-Abenaki War,” the 300th anniversary of this conflict offers an opportunity to examine what sparked Wabanakis and Maine colonists to go to war in 1722. Brunswick was the first town Wabanaki forces struck once the fighting started—why? How did participants and later generations remember—or forget—the violent years of 1722-1727?

Ian Saxine, Visiting Assistant Professor of History, Bridgewater State University, and author of Properties of Empire: Indians, Colonists, and Land Speculators on the New England Frontier joins us to commemorate the 300th anniversary of “Dummer’s War.”

Tickets: $5 PHC Members; $8 General Admission

Zoom link will be provided in your Eventbrite confirmation.
