Superhero September at Root Rind & Petal

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness month. Root Rind & Petal will be donating proceeds from your purchases this month to the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital to benefit all the Superheroes and families facing life threatening illness right here in Maine. We were fortunate to receive exceptional care @BBCH for Nathan who is 10 now, and 5 years in remission from Ewings Sarcoma. The “roots” of Root Rind & Petal began 5 years ago, sharing the tools and methods we used through Nathan’s journey. Jewelry Classes at the Wedge in Ft. Andross

Lisa & Scott Cylinder, collaborative studio Art Jewelers for 33 years, are teaching a basic/intermediate Jewelry Class in their Brunswick studio, “the Wedge.” Starting September 7th and running for 8 consecutive Tuesday evenings, the Cylinders will be teaching the basic knowledge of metals and jewelry making. The Wedge is Lisa & Scott Cylinder’s Studio and teaching space located in Fort Andross in Brunswick, ME. Lisa & Scott have been collaborative jewelry artiste for the past 33 years and have exhibited extensively, both nationally and internationally. They bring extensive knowledge and experiences to their classroom.

Each Spring and Fall, they will be offering 8 week beginner jewelry/metals classes to learn the basic skills of Art Jewelry making. Students with experience are welcome to sign up to brush up on and improve their skill sets. The classes are limited to 4 students per session for a rich, personalized experience. Summer Walking Tour: New Meadows Cemetery and Lives of the 1920s

New Meadows Cemetery and Lives from the 1920s, led Barbara Desmarais.

New for this year, in keeping with our 1920s theme, one of the Brunswick area’s leading cemetery historians, Barb Desmarais has revealed a great deal of hidden history over the years. Now she shines a light on New Meadows and a complicated era: a white Baptist farming community in the time of Americanism, KKK, new-fangled airplanes, a stock market crash, and no Naval Air Station. Treating those long gone as full human beings, Barb will reveal their complications–racism and French Canadian prejudice–as well as their accomplishments.

Please note that this tour begins at New Meadows Cemetery, Purinton Road, Brunswick Landing. Please check-in with tour leader at least 10 minutes prior to tour time.
