Drawn from Bowdoin’s collection, this exhibition addresses the birth of revolutionary artistic strategies, including abstraction, conceptually-driven work, and the use of photography and commercial printing techniques. Rarely seen masterpieces from Bowdoin’s collection offer insights into the materials, technologies, and changing tastes that shaped Chinese art over the past five centuries. Matthew Alexander Henson: First African-American at the North Pole 08/27/19 - 12/31/19 at 12:00 am

Matthew Alexander Henson: First African-American at the North Pole

Matthew Henson spent years exploring the Arctic with Robert E. Peary and in 1909 he was the only other American to stand with Peary at the North Pole. Henson was excluded from receiving the many honors showered on white members of the expedition. Only near the end of his life did Henson received recognition for his remarkable career as an Arctic explorer. This exhibit is in conjunction with the AF/AM/50 celebrations, celebrating fifty years of Africana Studies, the African American Society, and the John Brown Russwurm African American Center.

Cider Dinner With Eleanor Leger of Eden Ciders and Orleans Aperitifs 12/04/19 at 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Cider Dinner With Eleanor Leger of Eden Ciders and Orleans Aperitifs

Eleanor is coming! I’ve been wanting to do a dinner with Eleanor (the owner of Eden Ciders) for years, and it’s finally happening. We will have four family style courses, paired with Edens elegant apple wines. And yes, that is how I want you to think of them.

They are beautiful, structured wines that just happen to be made from apples. They also paired up with Deidre Heekin of La Garagista Winery to make incredible cider based digestifs under the Orleans line. We will be drinking cocktails made with those as well! As always, food will be $45/PP, wines a la carte and extra. Our dinners always fill up, so its definitely not too early to call and make a reservation.
