Bowdoin College is proud to present Tea With Harriet, a monthly tea and conversation series about the life and legacy of Harriet Beecher Stowe. This event is held the third Thursday of each month, 1 p.m.–2:30 p.m., at 63 Federal Street, in the home where Harriet Beecher Stowe lived (1850-1852). It was there that Stowe wrote Uncle Tom’s Cabinduring the time her husband, Calvin, a Bowdoin graduate, was asked to return to the College as a professor of religion.
Stowe House guide Cathi Belcher will read some witty excerpts from The American Woman’s Home, a domestic science book Stowe co-authored with her sister, Catharine. Readings include excerpts from chapters such as “Good Temper in the Housekeeper,” “The Healthful Home,” “The Management of Young Children,” “Care of the Homeless, the Helpless and the Vicious” and others.
The event is free and open to the public. No reservations required.
Tea and light refreshments will be provided. For more information, call 207- 721-5059.
