EXECUTIVE CHEF ALI WAKS ADAMS

A native New Yorker, Ali moved to Maine in 2014 after 15 years in Philadelphia. Her NYC career began in the Theater transitioning into a career in Special Events, once she realized that she enjoyed being paid to work. In Philadelphia, she was a fixture in the restaurant world. Ali was the owner of Bella, an American Bistro, a farm to table restaurant in the early 2000s, worked various front of the house and back of the house positions, ran small restaurant PR and marketing company, and, finally heeded the siren call of the stove, attending culinary school after 10 years in the biz.

Ali fell in love with Maine on her first visit, and since moving to here she has immersed herself in the local food scene, reveling in it’s quality and abundance. Ali is also the Producer and Chef/Partner of Butter+Salt Pop Up along with food writer/chef Christine Burns Rudalevige. She lives in Brunswick with her husband, 3 cats and 2 birds and has just become a member of the New England Chapter of Les Dames D’Escoffier.

The Big Swing Charity Golf Tournament

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick announces “The Big Swing” 2018

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick is pleased to announce that “The Big Swing,” the organization’s annual golf tournament, will be held on September 14, 2018 at the Brunswick Golf Club, 165 River Road, Brunswick.

Limited to thirty-two teams of four, the roster fills quickly so early registration is encouraged.  Teams of four may register for $500, or individual golfers may sign up for $150.  Fees include eighteen holes with a cart, lunch, awards and prizes.  Registrations may be completed by visiting the website, bbbsbathbrunswick.org.

Funds collected at “The Big Swing” support and maintain the one-on-one mentoring relationships between at-risk youths and an adult or older student volunteer.  These relationships greatly improve the chance for success for the youths facing adversity. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bath/Brunswick does not receive any state or federal funding, community support allows the continuation of effective early intervention.

Walk With Harriet

Join Stowe House Educator Cathi Belcher on an historical walking tour highlighting the important places in Brunswick that Harriet Beecher Stowe frequented as she worked on the writing of Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

The tours will run from June 8 to October 26, rain or shine, leaving the Stowe House at 63 Federal Street every Friday at 10 a.m.  The tours will last roughly an hour, and include stops at seven important sites, both on Bowdoin’s campus and nearby. Tea With Harriet: Held the third Thursday of each month at 1 PM. Come have tea and celebrate the life and legacy of Harriet Beecher Stowe through an entertaining talk that highlights different topics relating to her writing, her family and her extraordinary life.  The event is free, but due to popularity, tickets are required, and are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

BDA's Auction Fundraiser

You are invited to the Brunswick Downtown Association (BDA) Live & Silent Auction on ThursdayOctober 18th from 5 to 7:30 pm at The Daniel.  Auction proceeds will  community events hosted by the Brunswick Downtown Association! Music on the Mall, the Community BBQ, the Brunswick Outdoor Arts Festival, Tree Lighting Ceremony with Santa, The Rolling Slumber Bed Races and the Holiday Lighting fund as we light up the trees on the Town Mall and Maine Street!

 This Silent and Live Auction will offer a variety of items which will be auctioned off by John Bottero. Hors d’oeuvres created by the Daniel and a selection of decadent desserts, createdd by our downtown restaurant,s will be provided.  Cash bar.

Walk With Harriet

Join Stowe House Educator Cathi Belcher on an historical walking tour highlighting the important places in Brunswick that Harriet Beecher Stowe frequented as she worked on the writing of Uncle Tom’s Cabin.

The tours will run from June 8 to October 26, rain or shine, leaving the Stowe House at 63 Federal Street every Friday at 10 a.m.  The tours will last roughly an hour, and include stops at seven important sites, both on Bowdoin’s campus and nearby. Ali was the owner of Bella, an American Bistro, a farm to table restaurant in the early 2000s, worked various front of the house and back of the house positions, ran small restaurant PR and marketing company, and, finally heeded the siren call of the stove, attending culinary school after 10 years in the biz.

Rolling Slumber Bed Races

The 8th Annual Rolling Slumber Bed Races will take place on November 10th at 11 AM on Park Row, Downtown Brunswick. In the spirit of Community, families, businesses and local organizations can create a bed to race in this amazing, fun-filled event. The Rolling Slumber Bed Race will delight spectators with fast, funny and uniquely created beds — all on wheels!

Prizes will be awarded for speed, creativity and team spirit. The event is free for spectators. Since the race can be fast-paced, only adults (over age 18) will be able to participate.

If you are interested in participating, we are looking for some bed racing enthusiasts to put on a show, win prizes and bragging rights in the process!  Get your team together now and start planning to create your entry, whether for fun, speed or creativity!  For additional information, please contact the BDA staff at 729-4439 or admin@brunswickdowntown.org

Tea With Harriet: Held the third Thursday of each month at 1 PM. Come have tea and celebrate the life and legacy of Harriet Beecher Stowe through an entertaining talk that highlights different topics relating to her writing, her family and her extraordinary life.  The event is free, but due to popularity, tickets are required, and are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.
