Forest Bathing: Finding Mindfulness In Nature

Forest Bathing uses the meditative power of nature to heal. Bathe yourself in the calm and serenity of nature.Taking a walk in the woods is healing. In the 1980s, researchers of preventative health practices in Japan and South Korea began verifying the health benefits of spending time relaxing in the forest. The research on Forest Bathing show reduced stress hormones and stronger immune systems, better moods, faster healing and more energy in participants. We focus on maximizing those benefits by joining together mindfulness and Qigong techniques.

Join Cleo Wolf, Acupuncturist and former Buddhist monk, for this mindfulness based practice. Meet at Jade Integrated Health in Brunswick and take a short stroll through the woods to the Brunswick-Topsham Land Trust Labyrinth. Here participants will learn and practice usable mindfulness, meditation and qigong techniques.

Stay after the Forest Bathing event for gentle, restorative yoga class at Jade Integrated Health. Regular yoga class rates will apply ($15 for a drop-in).

These workshops and yoga classes are appropriate for all levels. Participants should feel comfortable walking on nature trails and standing for intermediate periods of time, chairs can be provided if needed.

Haydn & Messiaen

Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time represents a triumph of faith and creativity in the face of an uncertain future. When Messiaen, conscripted in the French army during World War II, was captured by the German forces and sent to the Stalag 8A prisoner-of-war camp outside Görlitz, he stowed a precious folder of beloved sketches close to his chest. These cherished materials, strung together with phrases from the Book of Revelation, inspired his masterpiece, which he and his fellow prisoners managed to premiere while in captivity.

JOSEPH HAYDN
Piano Trio in C Major Hob XV:27
Julian Martin, piano • Robin Scott, violin • Julia Lichten, cello

Intermission

OLIVIER MESSIAEN
Quatuor pour la fin du temps
Ayano Ninomiya, violin • Amir Eldan, cello • Derek Bermel, clarinet • Pei-Shan Lee, piano

Please join us following the performance for a reception at The Brunswick Inn.
