New Ventures Maine - My Next Career Move - free online class

New Ventures Maine logoTake charge of your career and create an action plan to achieve success. In this free, month-long, online class with New Ventures Maine, you will learn how your current skills connect to future careers, identify high-growth job fields, explore education and training options, and strengthen your resume for a targeted job search.

Facilitated by New Ventures Maine staff through assignments and online forums, this online class can be completed on your own schedule during the weeks of the class. Graduates of My Next Career Move are eligible to apply for the University of Maine at Augusta GEN Scholarship, to be used at any UMA location.

Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive

During the month of May,  join Bangor Savings Bank in the fight against hunger by donating peanut butter and jelly. All donations will be distributed to local food pantries. Drop off your donation at any Bangor Savings Bank branch. Take a photo of yourself donating and send to socialmedia@bangor.com and we will upload to our Facebook page.

For every #SelflessSelfie we receive, Bangor Savings Bank will donate 2 additional jars of peanut butter to the drive!

Adult Tennis Beginner 123

Looking to learn the sport of a lifetime? Played before but haven’t picked up a racket in awhile? Adult Tennis 123 is perfect for you!

You will learn all tennis strokes over the course of a month. Session start the beginning of each month; choose from one of the following: Tues. 9-10am, Wed. 6-7pm, or Sat. 10-11am. Cost is $55 and includes free court time on the weekends, a free cardio tennis class, a free social tennis mixer, and more! There is an option to join fitness and yoga as well.

Then and Now exhibit at Points of View Art Gallery

Points of View Artists open their 2018 gallery season with Then and Now, showing artwork that reflects the artistic development each artist has experienced over the years.  With works by 14 artists – each of whom has shifted in technique and approach – the exhibit presents an abundance of artistic diversity.

Tennis for Kids

Have your kids join us on the court to learn the sport of a lifetime!

Kids will play fun games as they learn skills and strategies. RED BALL (ages 4 1/2-7) meets Mondays and/or Wednesday from 4:15-5pm.

Opiate Addiction - What is working to fight it!

At a time when the addiction crisis seems overwhelming on so many levels, it is important not to overlook those instances where there has been success in treating the underlying causes. “Opiate Addiction in our Community: What is working to fight it!” will be presented by a panel of speakers from Mid Coast Hospital’s (MCH) Addiction Resource Center (ARC) at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 16 in the Morrell Meeting Room at Curtis Memorial Library. This free community event is hosted by American Association of University Women Bath-Brunswick branch (AAUW).

Panelists will include Catherine McConnell, LCPC, director of Outpatient Behavioral Health at MCH, who oversees the ARC. She will talk about addiction and how it affects the individual, family members and our community, and explain how ARC is responding to the crisis.

Other panelist include licensed alcohol and drug counselors and recovery coaches, a family support counselor as well as two individuals who have struggled with substance use and addiction who will discuss its impact on their lives, treatment experience and road to recovery.
