The Poetry Place – In partnership with Village Heritage Society ”Brunswick”
April is National Poetry Month. In honor of this special designation ‘People Plus” writers’ group will place some of their original poetry in the windows of Big Top Deli, Broadway Deli and Cool As a Moose. Gulf of Maine’s window will feature poems by Gary Lawless. Poet Patty L. Sparks will be posting her poetry at Bull Moose, Indrani’s, Lighthouse Deli, Union Street Bakery, Warmings Market, and Wild Oates Bakery. Hatch, the MIX, Morning Glory, and the Nest will be displaying poems in their storefronts.
Please join in this celebration and place a poem in your downtown window. The poem you choose could be by a Brunswick poet, a Maine poet or even a poem that will help draw customers to the downtown shopping experience and your business.
And remember on Poem In Your Pocket Day, Thursday April 26th to put a poem in your pocket and don a logo sticker. Help bring poetry to the downtown so Brunswick will become the PLACE where people will come together to celebrate poets and their craft.

Thornton Oaks Retirement Community presents “Painting Waves”, an art exhibit featuring the work of Nikki Pilgrim.
Nikki Pilgrim is a non-traditional watercolor painter, and illustrator. Her work is characterized by opulent color, pattern, and whimsy. Pilgrim describes herself as “… a maker. I am always compelled to be producing.” Heavily influenced by her coastal surroundings, artist Nikki Pilgrim immerses herself in the ‘ritual of painting’ using ornate color and pattern as she transfers her environment into her creative work.
Nikki’s dream-like paintings depict her surroundings; her art work is based and inspired by Maine. In addition to the natural environment, the artist says her work is influenced by antiquity, funk, pattern and color. “I relish my time spent at flea markets and in nature, both of which Maine is rich with. My found treasures, anything from driftwood off the beach or a find from the flea market, will often be incorporated into a painting.”
A NH native, she received a bachelor’s in fine arts from the Maine College of Art in 2007, with a focus in printmaking and has since been living, making, and showing her art on the coast of Maine. Her studio is located in Bath.
The public is invited to attend this free event. The exhibit remains open to the public during select times throughout April and May. Please call our business office at 373-4600 to find out times the exhibit is available for viewing.
Thornton Oaks Retirement Community is a homeowners cooperative and includes 46 cottages and 98 apartments nestled in 29 wooded acres in Brunswick. Thornton Oaks is affiliated with Mid Coast-Parkview Health.
