Mid Coast Hospital and Maine Pines Racquet & Fitness are again partnering to offer a yoga program designed to limit stress, reduce fatigue, and promote healing for cancer patients. “Yoga for Cancer” takes place weekly, beginning September 21 . It is free and open to cancer patients before, after, or during treatment.
Research suggests that yoga can improve the symptoms of cancer and cancer treatment, while helping patients cope. Benefits include a decrease in fatigue, pain, and anxiety as well as an increase in appetite, better quality sleep, and improved bone density. The Yoga for Cancer program will help cancer patients develop a better sense of well being, stimulate the immune system, and increase flexibility and strength.

The quilt artist Elizabeth Stone will be exhibiting at the library for the month of December.
First Viewing: Large Donated Collection of Animal-themed and Book-themed Handmade Quilts
This large quilt collection has been donated to Community Spay-Neuter Clinic by a generous quilt maker, Jackie M., who wishes to be anonymous, for the purpose of building a fund to help low-income pet owners afford humane care for their pets. The so-called “Jackie Fund” has raised over $2,000 so far, from the sale of these quilts. The fund is reserved for basic veterinary care for pets from low-income homes that are undergoing spay or neuter. It is used to provide significant relief in the event of a serious condition that the owner cannot afford to treat, for example severe parasite infestation, or bacterial infection. The quilts are unique, detailed and sometimes humorously designed and feature dogs, cats, fish and birds, and books. Quilts range from place mat size to over 5 feet long, appealing to all purposes and budgets.
Community Spay-Neuter Clinic, in Topsham, has provided spay-neuter to over 28,000 pets in just the 7 years it has been open. Modeled after the Humane Alliance in Asheville, North Carolina, the Clinic is one of over 200 clinics across the country that specializes in high-volume, high-quality, low-cost surgery to reduce unwanted litters and pet homelessness. The Clinic provides free transport from underserved populations of Maine, as far as Waterville and Thomaston, and also operates a mobile clinic to reach more distant areas, as far as Calais. More information on services and prices can be found at www.communityspayneuterclinic.com or on Facebook or calling us at 721-8395
