Ride The Amtrak Great Dome Car

Passengers who ride on the Amtrak Downeaster between August 19 and September 24, 2017, will be able to see Northern New England like never before!  Amtrak’s Great Dome rail car is returning to Maine and will travel along with the Amtrak Downeaster on four trips each day.  The vintage Dome was built in 1955 and features an upper level with windows on all sides (including the roof) that will offer passengers panoramic views of the scenic villages, coastline, marshes, streams and landscapes located all along the Downeaster route.

The seats in the upper level of the dome car are available at no extra cost, but they are unreserved and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Passengers are encouraged to rotate in and out of the Dome car to allow all passengers the ability to enjoy this unique experience.

The Great Dome Car is available on the following Downeaster trains*:

Tea With Harriet

Tea With Harriet: September 21

Catharine Beecher’s Birthday.   Bowdoin College is proud to present Tea With Harriet, a monthly tea and conversation series about the life and legacy of Harriet Beecher Stowe. As Harriet’s oldest sister, Catharine was an influential author and woman of great industry. She was also a social as well as educational reformer in her own right. In celebration of Catharine’s birthday, join Stowe House Educator Cathi Belcher as she discusses the major contributions Catherine made in 19th century America.   Tea and birthday cake will be provided. This event is held the third Thursday of each month, 1 p.m.–2:30 p.m., at 63 Federal Street, in the home where Harriet Beecher Stowe lived (1850-1852).

Dementia Caregivers Education Series

The Dementia Caregivers Education Series is a free monthly support group offered by Mid Coast Senior Health Center to assist individuals in understanding and caring for someone with memory loss. The groups meets the third Thursday of every month (except July, August, and December), 4-5 p.m. at Mid Coast Senior Health Center, 58 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick. Yoga for Cancer

Mid Coast Hospital and Maine Pines Racquet & Fitness are again partnering to offer a yoga program designed to limit stress, reduce fatigue, and promote healing for cancer patients. “Yoga for Cancer” takes place weekly, beginning September 21 . It is free and open to cancer patients before, after, or during treatment.

Research suggests that yoga can improve the symptoms of cancer and cancer treatment, while helping patients cope. Benefits include a decrease in fatigue, pain, and anxiety as well as an increase in appetite, better quality sleep, and improved bone density. The Yoga for Cancer program will help cancer patients develop a better sense of well being, stimulate the immune system, and increase flexibility and strength.
