Ride The Amtrak Great Dome Car

Passengers who ride on the Amtrak Downeaster between August 19 and September 24, 2017, will be able to see Northern New England like never before!  Amtrak’s Great Dome rail car is returning to Maine and will travel along with the Amtrak Downeaster on four trips each day.  The vintage Dome was built in 1955 and features an upper level with windows on all sides (including the roof) that will offer passengers panoramic views of the scenic villages, coastline, marshes, streams and landscapes located all along the Downeaster route.

The seats in the upper level of the dome car are available at no extra cost, but they are unreserved and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Passengers are encouraged to rotate in and out of the Dome car to allow all passengers the ability to enjoy this unique experience.

The Great Dome Car is available on the following Downeaster trains*:

Through the combination of technique, humor and grace, the instructors make the benefits of yoga available to all.

Food for Health: The Gut of the Matter

Mid Coast Hospital’s Food for Health program offers FREE plant-based cooking demonstration & education to inspire you to a healthier lifestyle. In this monthly program, Timothy Howe, MD, and Sheryl McWilliams, MPH, RN, show how chronic diseases can be prevented, treated, and even reversed with a plant-based diet.

The next session, “The Gut of the Matter” will be held September 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Brunswick Seventh-day Adventist Church, 333 Maine Street, Brunswick.

Author Event: Dick Cass

Join Curtis Friends, Sisters in Crime, and Maine Crime Writers for a fascinating evening with author Dick Cass on Tuesday, September 19 at 7 pm in the Morrell Meeting Room.  This is the second event in our 2017 Mystery Author series.

Dick Cass is the author of Solo Act, the first novel in the Elder Darrow jazz mystery series, which he originally pitched as “an alcoholic walks into a dive bar and decides to buy it.” Solo Act was published by Five Star Publishing in January 2016 and was a finalist for a Maine Literary Award in 2017. The second book in the Elder Darrow series, In Solo Time, will be published in September 2017.

This program is free and open to the public, no registration is required.
