Passengers who ride on the Amtrak Downeaster between August 19 and September 24, 2017, will be able to see Northern New England like never before! Amtrak’s Great Dome rail car is returning to Maine and will travel along with the Amtrak Downeaster on four trips each day. The vintage Dome was built in 1955 and features an upper level with windows on all sides (including the roof) that will offer passengers panoramic views of the scenic villages, coastline, marshes, streams and landscapes located all along the Downeaster route.
The seats in the upper level of the dome car are available at no extra cost, but they are unreserved and available on a first-come, first-served basis. Passengers are encouraged to rotate in and out of the Dome car to allow all passengers the ability to enjoy this unique experience.

Dr. Martin T. Nweeia, lecturer at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and clinical assistant professor at the Case School of Dental Medicine, will talk about his landmark studies on narwhal tusk sensory function.
How does a narwhal use its strange, long, spiral tusk? Martin Nweeia, a practicing dentist and research scientist, has been studying the purpose and sensory function of the narwhal tusk for over a dozen years in an effort to answer that question. His research team includes western scientists, veterinarians, and Inuit hunters from Canada and Greenland. Dr. Nweeia will discuss some of the surprising discoveries made by this international research group. Also, he will explain how the team has used both western field science, laboratory techniques, and Inuit knowledge in their endeavors.

Starting Monday, September 11, New Ventures Maine will offer My Money Works, a free five-week class to help you gain the skills and confidence to stretch your money, pay your bills, reduce your debt, find money for savings, plan for retirement, and set personal financial goals.

The class will be held on Mondays from 5:30-8:00 PM, meeting for four sessions from September 11 through October 2. Classes take place in Orion Hall at the University College of Bath/Brunswick at 12 Sewall Street in Brunswick Landing.
