Yoga for Cancer

Yoga for Cancer is a FREE weekly program designed to limit stress, reduce fatigue, and promote healing for cancer patients—pre, post, or during treatment. What to expect: A better sense of well being, stimulated immune system, help with building bone density, increased strength and flexibility. Walk-ins welcome!

Reza Jalali on 'Muslim in America'

Reza Jalali, named as one of Maine’s 50 leaders by Maine Magazine in 2016, is a writer, educator, and human rights activist. As a member of Amnesty International USA Board of Directors, Jalali has led delegations to different refugee camps in Turkey and Bosnia. He has participated in numerous United Nations-sponsored international conferences. In 1992, he visited the White House as part of a national delegation to discuss the plight of Kurdish refugees fleeing Iraq. Jalali is the coordinator of multicultural student affairs at the University of Southern Maine and advises Muslim students at Bowdoin College.

Jalali wrote the Foreword to New Mainers (©2009, Tilbury House, Publishers) a book on immigrant’s experiences in Maine. His children’s book, Moon Watchers has received a Skipping Stones Honor Award for Multicultural Book. His most recent work includes the 2013 book Homesick Mosque and Other Stories as well as the 2015 play The Poets and the Assassin, which offers historic and contemporary insights into the plight of women in Iran.

Mark your calendar for May 25 at 6:30 pm and meet Reza Jalali in the Morrell Meeting Room at Curtis Memorial Library.  This is a free event. Refreshments will be provided and books will be available for purchase.
