In preparation for their 2017 summer season at the Pickard Theatre, Maine State Music Theatre will host its first Film Friday May 5 at Brunswick’s Curtis Memorial Library. Featuring the second show of it’s main stage season, the 1955 version of Guys and Dolls will be screened at 6 PM and take place in the Morrell Meeting Room.
The 1955 movie of the Abe-Burrows/Jo Swerling/Frank Loesser musical based on tales by Damon Runyan, Guys and Dolls, features Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons, Vivian Blaine, Stubby Kaye, and Sheldon Leonard in an engaging story about high stakes gambling, romance, and redemption, all set in the underworld of 1930s New York. The unforgettable score includes songs like “Miss Adelaide’s Lament,” “Luck Be a Lady Tonight,” “Sit Down, You’re Rockin the Boat,” “If I Were a Bell,” and “Take Back Your Mink.”
The showing will be followed by a talk-back with Artistic Director Curt Dale Clark, who will discuss how the film compares to the stage version. Film Fridays are free and open to the public.
